The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security are strengthening their partnership to boost agricultural production in Nigeria.

Recently, the Ministry and NiMet signed an MoU to collaborate on various initiatives, including developing an early warning system dashboard and providing agro-meteorological advisory services to farmers.

During a joint press briefing on NiMet’s annual Seasonal Climate Prediction (SCP) in Abuja, Senator Abubakar Kyari, the Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, emphasized the importance of NiMet’s predictions in sectors like aviation, maritime, and agriculture. He noted the reliability of NiMet’s forecasts, essential for informed decision-making.

NiMet’s Seasonal Climate Prediction helps guide agriculture by providing critical information on rainfall patterns, optimal planting times, and dry spell alerts, enhancing farmers’ adaptive capacity.

Professor Charles Anosike of NiMet expressed gratitude for the Ministry’s support and highlighted the agency’s efforts in disseminating climate information to farmers through various channels.

Anosike emphasized the need for broader collaboration to ensure food security, stressing the challenge of reaching millions of Nigerian farmers with actionable weather data.
