NIGERIANFLIGHTDECK.COM has just learnt that last Friday, that the management of Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) has sacked 47 teachers from its staff school without any reason whatsoever and plan to replace the staff teachers with contract workers.
It has also been learnt that the school has already placed adverts to fill the position of the 47 teachers on a contractual basis.
The NCAT rector it was learnt tried to prevail on management to look for another alternative however that was not to happen as management decided that it the termination must go through and the sacked teachers were paid three months in lieu notice to leave.
However, Nigerianflightdeck.com reached the NCAT Public Relations Officer, Mr. Bala who explained that Federal government gave a directive that it could no longer fund the staff schools and that is why NCAT took the decision according to Federal Government directive to terminate the appointments of the teachers.
Bala said, “It is not an NCAT decision to terminate their appointments, Federal Government says it can no longer fund staff schools in Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and we are an agency that gets subvention from the FG. So we followed their directive and now we are going to employ people we are taking application which are also open to former staff that were laid off and the general public.â€
He further explained that unlike FAAN Staff School which generates its own revenue and does not get subvention from the government, the NCAT school does not generate any and so had to take the measures in compliance to the directive.
