Ag. Director General of NCAA, Captain Chris Najomo, highlighted the vital cabin crew safety role as a link between passengers and the cockpit. He stressed the importance of Crew Resource Management (CRM) in flight safety.
Najomo made this known at the Annual Cabin Safety Workshop held at the NCAA Annex in Lagos. Regional Manager Barrister Bukola Teriba, representing Najomo, emphasized that safety remains the top priority in airline operations. The workshop adheres to International Civil Aviation Organisation standards and recommended practices.
Teriba stated, “Safety is our priority, and everyone has a role to play in this regulated industry.”
Guest speaker Sir Paul Ogwuru discussed the importance of robust safety dynamics in aviation. He emphasized that cabin safety plays a crucial role in mitigating abnormal occurrences.
Ogwuru added, “Cabin safety minimizes abnormal occurrences, where attitude and safety culture mitigate these risks.”
“These three are inseparable and this behooves organizations to be on the same page with regulatory bodies in this case the NCAA for the maintaining standards.”
Head of Cabin Safety Inspection, Maria Umoh-Ordor, stressed professionalism and the need for a strong safety culture. She emphasized the cabin crew safety role in maintaining high standards across the industry.
“So, what we want to bring out is, as a cabin crew or as a cabin safety professional, you should rise above your culture and your attitude to be a professional. We are going to be focusing on
professionalism here and all the aspects that you have to bring to play so that you can be seen as a safety professional. “
Airlines represented at the program include Aero Contractors, Aril Air, Ibom Air, Rano Air and Max Air. Others are Overland Valuejet, United Nigeria, Green Africa and ANAP Jet.
