MINISTRY of Aviation has this morning discredited reports of a link between the Thursday February 23rd, 2017, visit of Acting President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo to the gale of sacks at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) which occurred a day after.
In a statement made available by Deputy Director Press for the Minister, Mr. James Odaudu, the Acting President who came in company of the Minister of State for Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, undertook an inspection visit to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
He explained that the visit was to assess the state of facilities at the Murtala Muhammed international Airport (MMIA) and to see possible areas of immediate attention.
The statement however decried that a section of the nation’s Media (Not Nigerianflightdeck ) decided, rather inexplicably, to establish a link between the Acting President’s visit and the recent reorganization at nation’s aviation agencies.
It further read,“It must be made clear that the link between the two events has no basis, as the reorganization in the Agencies is part of an ongoing process to reposition them to properly and adequately carry out their regulatory mandates. “
“Recall that this administration, at inception, placed Aviation among top priority areas that would be reorganized and repositioned to contribute more to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product and develop as a sub-regional hub for air transportation. It therefore amounts to an error of judgment to attribute the reorganization efforts to the visit of the Acting President to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. ”
The statement further advised, “Practitioners in the media industry are therefore advised to always cross check their information before going to press in order to avoid unnecessary controversies and misinformation to the public. “
