Mahmoud Ben- Tukur elevated to 1st Vice President of ICAO Council

Engineer Mahmoud Sani Ben-Tukur, Nigeria’s ICAO representative, rose to 1st Vice President during the 230th ICAO Council meeting.

Ben-Tukur stepped into this role after Dr. Shefali Juneja the Representative of India’s departure.

Engineer Tukur who brings 28 years of experience acquired through a solid aviation career was appointed representative in January 2020.

His vast aviation career spans both government and private sector as an aircraft maintenance engineer, Instructor and Aviation safety Inspector.

He was General Manager (Airworthiness Standards) at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority and Technical Assistant to  Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation.

Having held coordination roles in various organisations, including NCAA and Aerocontractors Airlines, Tukur’s regulatory expertise is extensive.

Furthermore, as Chair of the ICAO Joint Support Committee, he demonstrated leadership. Tukur’s influence extends to ICAO Standing Committees, shaping aviation policies.

His committee service, ranging from Air Transport to Cybersecurity Coordination, showcases Tukur’s multifaceted contributions to aviation governance and security.

Tukur, an Aeronautical Engineering Master’s graduate from Riga Aviation University, also holds an Aviation Safety Certificate from the University of Southern California, USA.

A Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and a member of RAeS and IET in the UK, Tukur excels in engineering.
