March 11, 2024, The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Commander-in- Chief of the Armed Forces, His Excellency, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR ; The Executive Governor of Niger State, His Excellency, Mohammed Umaru Bago in company of the Executive Governors of Lagos State, The Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku and other dignitaries, commissioned the Minna International Airport which is named after the President as, " Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport, Minna .”

Boosting Nigeria’s economy and revenue entails proper investments in exporting food and perishables via air transport.

According to Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, Managing Director/Chief Executive of FAAN, during her address to reporters after commissioning the refurbished Bola Tinubu International Airport in Minna on March 11, 2024.

Representing the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, Mrs. Kuku expressed gratitude to the Niger State Governor, Honourable Umar Mohammed Bago, for swiftly completing the project. She highlighted its contribution to the state’s gross domestic product.

Acknowledging the daunting task of overhauling the runway and constructing the passenger terminal, Mrs. Kuku emphasized the project’s significance in advancing infrastructure, enhancing connectivity, and fostering economic growth. She believes the airport will serve as a global gateway, promoting trade, tourism, and collaboration.

FAAN aspires to boost Nigeria’s economy by facilitating exports, aiming to reduce the annual loss of N3.6 trillion worth of perishable goods. Mrs. Kuku expressed excitement about the promised completion of Cargo and International Terminals, urging swift action to support the state’s ambition to become a leading food producer and exporter.

Renaming the airport after President Tinubu signifies a historic tribute to his visionary leadership and policy implementations. Mrs. Kuku commended the partnership between FAAN and the Niger State Government, led by Governor Bago, for their commitment and close monitoring, ensuring the project’s timely completion.

Mrs. Kuku extended gratitude to all contributors to the project’s success, including consultants, FAAN engineers, construction workers, government officials, and FAAN staff, emphasizing collective efforts in achieving milestones.
