Following Minister Festus Keyamo’s approval, MUNICH International and F.C.I International were invited to review airport development in Nigeria. They will collaborate to conduct a technical workshop focused on implementing the masterplan for Nigerian airports’ infrastructure improvement. This partnership therefore marks a significant step in ensuring the country’s airports adopt a standardized approach to development.
During his keynote presentation, Keyamo emphasized that implementing the masterplan will be mandatory for all Nigerian airports. Moreover, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) will actively monitor adherence to the masterplan, ensuring compliance across the entire aviation sector. The Permanent Secretary, Dr. Emmanuel Meribole, represented the Minister at the event, reinforcing the government’s commitment to the project.
At this critical time, the CAA is also embarking on its aviation development master planning initiative. This initiative aims to establish clear standards for the aviation industry to thrive in Nigeria.
The workshop comes at a crucial time when aligning with global standards has become essential as they review airport development in Nigeria.
Mr. Fortune Idu, Managing Director of F.C.I International and coordinator, emphasized that the event is an “Airport Master Plan fact-finding technical workshop.” He explained that the workshop’s goal is to guide the Ministry’s technical team and FAAN in acquiring, procuring, and implementing the master planning process.
Led by Senior Consultant Bünck Olaf of Munich Airport International, who has overseen over 13 global airport masterplan projects, the workshop provided invaluable insights.
Moreover, Olaf’s leadership and experience brought global perspectives, ensuring that Nigeria’s airports benefit from international best practices. The workshop aims to raise awareness of the masterplan’s relevance, application, and implementation process for future airport development.
Ultimately, it seeks to prepare a well-informed team that will become custodians of the masterplan once fully developed. This structured approach will help guide Nigeria’s airports toward improved infrastructure and more efficient operations.
Capt. Chris Najomo, Acting DG, states that the processes initiated by the Ministry, the CAA, and FAAN demonstrates commitment to long-term aviation development. He urged participants to fully engage, emphasizing that their involvement is crucial to making aviation safer and more sustainable.
Representatives from the Federal Ministry of Aviation, aviation agencies, and several Nigerian state airports were present at the workshop. Consequently, their participation underscored the importance of a unified approach to the airport master planning process.
