FEDERAL Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has strongly condemned malicious falsehood making rounds on the social media claiming that there were casualties at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri fire incident.
The airport landlords in a statement released decried the level of falsehood in the trending video which is geared to paint a lie that there were people burnt by the fire and has warned the originators and spreader to stop in their interest and the interest of the nation.
The statement signed by General Manager Corporate Communications, Mrs. Henrietta Yakubu read, ” The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has been drawn to a false and malicious video presently trending online to the effect that there were casualties in the unfortunate fire incident that occurred at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri yesterday.”
“The Authority will like to state unequivocally that their was no casualty, as the fire was swiftly curtailed by officers of our Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting Services.”
“The Authority will like to advise those spreading this falsehood to desist from such acts in their own interest.”
Meanwhile, this is not the first time wrong videos on the social media has been used to demean the airport authority the last but one being the Air Force counter terrorism drill, a training exercise that was posted online and tagged as a real terrorist attack causing untold trauma to air travellers and panic in the international community.
