FOLLOWING last Saturday’s power outage that crippled activities at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos the management of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has restored power to the airport.
A statement issued by FAAN’s spokesman, Yakubu Dati read,” The Management of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria wish to inform the general public that power has been fully restored at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport Lagos, shortly after a power outage.”
The statement which also explained the cause of the blackout read further,”A power surge from the power company at about 8:56pm on Saturday 27th August, adversely affected the k16 transformer that serves the E-Wing Air-bridges and rendered them unserviceable. This affected operations of some departing flights, as the heavy rainfall further delayed attempts by engineers to effect repairs immediately.”
“However, by 10:50am on Sunday 28th August, the engineers successfully corrected all defaults and normalcy was again restored at affected areas.”
The authority further apologized and assured airport users of safety and security at the airports, “FAAN wishes to apologise to passengers, airlines and the general public for the inconvenience caused by this interruption.”
