Delta flights restart after world wide computer outage

Delta Air Lines said that a ground stop has been lifted and departures are resuming following a power outage that caused delays and flight cancellations worldwide.

Delta Air Lines had in the thick of the outage cancelled approximately 300 flights and as of 3:30pm WAT, Delta operated 800 of its nearly 6,000 scheduled flights. While systems are improving and flights are resuming, delays and cancellations continue.

The airline said in a statement that passengers heading to airports should expect delays and cancellations while systems return to normal.

The statement read,”Customers heading to the airport should expect delays and cancellations. While inquiries are high and wait times are long, our customer service agents are doing everything they can to assist. There may also be some lag time in the display of accurate flight status at delta.com, the Fly Delta App and from Delta representatives on the phone and in airport.”

“We apologize to customers who are affected by this issue, and our teams are working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.”

The airline also said that the display of flight status at airports and on Delta’s website may be inaccurate.

A power outage in Atlanta caused the delays as Delta’s computer systems suffered a major crash.

The outage, which began around 2:30 am EDT (06:30 GMT/UTC), caused large-scale cancellations, with passengers stranded at airports around the world.

Delta’s trans-Atlantic partner Virgin Atlantic said all their flights are departing as normal.
