Uganda Airlines Triumphs at 3rd Annual Aviation Cup Africa Golf Tournament

Uganda Airlines duo Chris Erhagbe and Abdulai Musa triumphed at the 3rd Annual Aviation Cup Africa Golf Tournament. They emerged victorious in the Corporate Foursome team game, held at Ikeja Golf Club. The team scored combined Stableford points of 67 on Day 1 and 70 on Day 2.

Similarly, South African Airways’ Guy Omene and Deji Johnson secured the runner-up position. They recorded 63 points on Day 1 and 57 points on Day 2. Sabre Travel Solutions’ Dare Olayiwola and Samuel Olowo claimed third place with 61 points on Day 1 and 54 on Day 2. Other competitors included teams from Etam Avitat, ExecuJet, Rwandair, FAAN, and Arik Air.

FAAN’s Nasir Yahaya won the Men’s singles category with a superior countback score of 35 Stableford points. His victory earned him a business class ticket to Kigali, provided by Rwandair.

Meanwhile, the tournament, declared open by Federal Airport Authority’s Managing Director Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku and Sabre Travel Solutions’ Chairman Dr. Gabriel Olowo, attracted participation from eight international and local airlines. It also hosted Business Jet charters and MRO/FBOs for the first time.

Kuku, represented by Director of Airport Operations Capt. Abdullahi Mahmood, expressed pride in FAAN’s association with the event. He said, “The event has grown in leaps and bounds in the last few years. It is a great way to bond with other stakeholders while enjoying the beautiful game of golf. Moreover, at FAAN, we care about the well-being of our people and will always promote healthy competition that brings out the best in humanity. Congratulations to the organizers on another successful event, and we look forward to taking more trophies next year.”

Uganda Airlines’ Country Manager Patrick Zziwa praised the winning team, saying, “We are grateful to Chris and Musa who withstood the pressure of the competition and kept cool heads on their shoulders until the very last putts, which culminated in the victory for Uganda Airlines.”

Explaining their participation, Zziwa added, “We are pleased to have partnered with the Aviation Industry on the 3rd annual Aviation Cup Africa Golf Tournament. This is one way we can promote sports tourism in the aviation industry. We particularly thank the organizers for such an initiative and teamwork towards achieving this goal.”

ExecuJet Nigeria FZE’s Sales & Marketing Specialist Fredrick Venter emphasized their engagement to network with both the aviation and golf communities. He stated, “ExecuJet Aviation Nigeria FZE participated in the tournament to network with the aviation community and the golf community. It is West Africa’s MRO/FBO’s way of giving back and embracing the unique relationship between golf and aviation.”

Organizers honored notable individuals with ‘Aviagolf Veterans Recognition’. Honorees included Dr. Alex Izinyon, Dr. Gabriel Olowo, Air Cdre. Tokunbo Ajomale (rtd.), Grp. Capt. USA Sadiq, AVM Monday Morgan, AVM Solomon, Air Cdre. Funsho Adeleke, and Air Cdre. Simon Okwuokei (rtd.).

Chief organizer Sòókò Deji Ajomale-McWord expressed joy over the success of the event. He remarked on the quality of organizations participating in this first 2-day edition.
