Director General, Nigerian Meteorological Agency, Professor Charles Anosike, was honored as a Chartered Risk Management Institute Honourary Fellow. He emphasized NiMet’s climate actions in promoting climate risk management and preparedness across Nigeria. 

The award was presented during the CRMI’s 23rd annual international conference held on August 29, 2024, at Eko Hotel & Suites. The theme of the event was “Emerging Crises in Africa: Way Forward.” CRMI conferred Honourary Fellowships to notable Nigerians for the first time, recognizing their contributions to risk management and national development.”

President Dr. Ezekiel Oseni, speaking for the institute, said, “We carefully selected honorees for their significant impact and dedication to development.”

Alongside Professor Anosike, other recipients were Dr. Kadri Hamzat, Lagos Deputy Governor, Dr. Olayemi Cardoso, Central Bank Governor, and Dr. Zaccheus Adedeji.

Professor Anosike, in his speech, thanked CRMI for the recognition, saying, “I’m honored to be recognized with distinguished individuals.”

NiMet’s commitment to climate risk management and preparedness remains strong, and we will continue driving initiatives that promote climate action in Nigeria.

He highlighted NiMet’s role in advancing climate awareness, saying, “Our partnerships improve climate knowledge, risk management, and disaster preparedness.”

Professor Anosike explained, “We are rolling out the United Nations Early Warnings for All initiative to ensure warnings reach all vulnerable populations.”

Continuing, he added, “NiMet’s annual Seasonal Climate Prediction (SCP) remains a critical Early Warning tool for national climate actions. We will keep driving the key components of early warning, which include risk knowledge, monitoring, observation, and dissemination.

All stakeholders must act immediately on early warnings from the SCP and other NiMet products for effectiveness.

Industry leaders like Dame Adaora Umeoji, Dr. Roosevelt Ogbonna, and Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe participated and received recognition for contributions.
