The Association Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has rejected the 80 percent being put forward by the duopoly handling companies in the Nigerian aviation industry, Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO) and Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) insisting the down tools continue.
This is just as losses in the over one week of the down tools by cargo agents has been put at ₦6bn.
At a negotiation meeting held today Tuesday 2nd May, 2023 to resolve the issues between the agents and the handling companies, the companies reduced the charges by 20 per cent but the agents insisted on 50 per cent reduction insisting there is no where world over where 100% increments are done.
The Vice Chairman of ANCLA, Mr Davies Ben Chukwunenye said the agents rejected the 80 percent put forward before them adding that the strike continues.
Davies said they will only agree on 50 percent adding that there was nowhere in the world where 100 percent increment is allowed.
Tuesday made it one week that customs clearing agents embarked on strike over the introduction of 100 percent cargo increase.
The two companies have justified the increase saying cost of operations and acquisition of equipment was on the high side.
However, cargo imports and exports worth billions are still trapped at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA)
