NCAA suspends United Nigeria Airlines' wet leases

Following the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission   arrest of  four officials of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), including the agency’s Director, Finance and Accounts, Bilkisu Adamu Sani over allegedly orchestrating a N2 billion Duty Tour Allowance ( DTA) fraud the agency has alerted staff that payment may not be timely.

EFCC arrested the agency’s  staff, all part of the finance department including the DFA herself one Hart Benson Fimienye, Deputy General Manager, Treasury; Obene Jenbarimiema Turniel, Deputy General Manger (Management Accounts) and Nathaniel Terna Kaainjo, General Manager (Accounts and Stores) on Monday. A circular REF NO: NCAA/DHRA/CIR/003/2023/001 obtained by NigerianFLIGHTDECK and appended upon by Director Human Resources and Administration, Wakil Adamu titled possible delay in March 2023 payment read in part:

“You may be aware that an investigation is currently going on and some key staff of the Directorate of Finance and Accounts whose schedule is to do with Salary payment are involved and are not available to process

the payment. This therefore may affect timely payment of March, 2023 Salary.

“Be assured however, that Management is making necessary arrangements to work around the situation. Management implores you to be patient while the Issue is being sorted.” It read.

According to a source in the EFCC, General Manager (Accounts and Stores) Nathaniel Terna Kaainjo was taken into EFCC’s custody on Thursday, March 16, 2023 while the others were arrested on Monday, March 20, 2023.

The source revealed that the detained NCAA officials allegedly paid themselves, and others, Duty Tour Allowance, DTA, in excess of N2 million.
