Air Peace says it resolved its dispute with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) before the arrest of Joe Ajaero. The airline had already withdrawn its petition, expressing concern about recent media reports regarding the arrest.
Air Peace criticized the negative media coverage, noting it does not reflect the current relationship between the airline and the NLC. According to Omotade Makinwa, the airline’s spokesperson, the police acted based on a September 2023 petition filed by Air Peace.
The petition was filed after the NLC disrupted Air Peace’s operations in May 2023 during a conflict with the Imo State government. Despite Air Peace having no involvement, its services were used to pressure the government. This disruption caused financial losses and affected passengers across Nigeria.
After the disruption, Air Peace’s legal team submitted a formal petition to the police. However, the police delayed action until recently, which led to the alleged arrest of the NLC president. Air Peace clarified that the issue was resolved before the arrest, and they had withdrawn their petition to maintain a positive relationship.
