SAM Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri (SMICA),Margaret Ekpo International Airport, Calabar and the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport Sokoto have both received recognition and accreditation for their commitment to prioritizing health and safety measures in accordance with ICAO Council Aviation Restart Task Force (CART) recommendations.
These accreditation are in alignment with ACI Aviation Business Restart and Recovery guidelines along with industry best practices.
The programme is designing to help reassure the travelling public that airports facilities remain safe and that precautions are being taken to reduce any risk to their health.
A letter signed by Director General ACI World, Luis Felipe de Oliveira addressed to Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Captain Rabiu Yadudu extended congratulations for SMICA becoming accredited in the ACI’s Airport Health Accreditation Programme.
The letter read,” After reviewing the evidence presented through our evaluation process, your airport has shown that it is providing safe airport experience for all travelers which is in line with the recommended health measures established in the ACI Aviation Business Restart and Recovery guidelines and ICAO Council Aviation Restart Task Force along with industry best practices.
The letter to the Chief executive Sultan Abubakar III International Airport Sokoto, Mr. Musa Asizehi from the DG dated 20th July 2021 also read same and stressed that the accreditation is valid for 12 months
