Youth employment and energy transition
Founder and Chairman United Bank for Africa, Tony Elumelu

Youth employment and energy transition are central to the discussions Tony Elumelu will lead at the United Nations General Assembly. With over 60% of Africans lacking electricity access, and youth comprising 60% of the population, Africa faces transformative challenges. These challenges will undoubtedly shape global outcomes, requiring immediate attention and innovative solutions from international and African leaders alike.

In his speech at the Clinton Global Initiative, Elumelu will stress the need for immediate, collaborative global efforts. Bill Clinton and Elumelu will lead a roundtable aimed at mobilizing international support for Africa’s development. Furthermore, Elumelu will participate in an event co-hosted by the World Food Programme and his foundation. These engagements seek to promote actionable strategies addressing Africa’s challenges through collective leadership.

At the heart of these efforts, youth employment and energy transition will stand out, reinforcing the urgency of economic growth. The collaboration with Cindy McCain, WFP Executive Director, will also focus on empowering young Africans through entrepreneurship. The discussions emphasize the necessity of global partnerships in creating sustainable development pathways for Africa.

Elumelu’s vast experience in driving transformative economic growth on the continent positions him as a credible advocate for Africa’s progress. His leadership at Heirs Holdings and UBA showcases the impact of private sector-driven solutions in reshaping Africa’s future. By addressing poverty and infrastructure deficits, Elumelu emphasizes that the private sector must champion sustainable development.

In a recent statement, Elumelu declared, “Nowhere else in the world offers the investment returns that Africa does, but we must address the challenges.”

Africa faces mounting environmental and economic crises, worsened by global emissions and inadequate infrastructure investment. Elumelu’s Africapitalism philosophy urges private sector leaders to take the helm in delivering shared prosperity across the continent. His initiatives aim to unlock Africa’s economic potential and address key issues such as youth unemployment and energy transition.

Additionally, UBA will host a gala during UNGA to celebrate the bank’s contributions and promote investment opportunities in Africa. This event marks UBA Group’s 75th anniversary, drawing leaders from around the world to explore African growth prospects.
