FCAN canvasses Type rating organization, Fly Nigeria, MRO to stem capital flight

  • Calls for tax rebates for airlines that train professional staff
FLIGHT Crew Association of Nigeria (FCAN) has emphasized the need for government to establish a commercial full Type Rating Training Organization (TRTO) as well as a full service Maintenance Repairs and Overhaul facility to help stem capital flight.

This is just as the association re-echoed the need for government to implement a Fly Nigeria policy and have canvassed tax rebates for airlines that sponsor initial basic training for pilots, cabin crew, engineers and dispatchers equal to the value of the training cost as part of plans geared towards sustainable development of the aviation industry.

President of FCAN, Capt. Robert Roland made this known at the Air Controllers/Pilot Interactive Forum in Lagos with the theme “Enhancing Safety of Flight Operations” at the NCAA Annex where he said the suggestions will not only enhance safety, but stem capital flight.

Captain Roland who said government should look at establishing a full service Maintenance Repairs and Overhaul facility as well as a commercial full Type Rating Training Organization (TRTO) in Nigeria said in doing so the country would cater for maintenance and training needs for the west African sub-region.

He said,”We wish to re-echo a few suggestions that will not only enhance safety, but will also pave the path for sustainable development of our aviation industry through improved infrastructure and manpower development, skill retention and stemming of capital flight.

” The establishment of a full service Maintenance Repairs and Overhaul facility in Nigeria. 100% Local refining of Jet A1. Airlines that sponsor initial basic training for Pilots, cabin crew, engineers and dispatchers should be given tax rebates equal to the value of the training cost.

” A Fly Nigeria policy which mandates that all government sponsored travel will have to be on a Nigerian carrier and if that is not feasible then another African carrier. Commercial full Type Rating Training Organization (TRTO) in Nigeria to cater to the training needs for the west African sub-region as well as a strategic consolidation of the Nigerian and the African aviation industry.

He explained that the Flight Crew Association of Nigeria (FCAN) was not a union but an association of Nigerian pilots within Nigeria and in diaspora, that provide a compendium of experiences and ideas to educate, build, and support the pilot community and aspiring pilots, and as direct users, the Nigeria aviation sector.
