Nigerianflightdeck.com, Nigerian Immigration and AIB bag recognition awards

POPULAR online aviation platform, Nigerianflightdeck has been awarded Best Aviation Reporter at this year’s Nigerian Aviation Award ( NIGAV) with the Nigerian Immigration Service ( NIS) receiving an award as the Best Facilitation Service, both bodies recognised for their contribution to the industry.

This is just as Accident Investigation Bureau ( AIB) bagged three awards, first named Aviation Agency ( Operational Efficiency) of the Year 2018, while its Chief Executive, Mr. Akin Olateru won CEO of the Year 2018, the agency’s spokesman Mr. Tunji Oketumbi was awarded Public Relations Officer of the Year.

For Nigerianflightdeck, the award is coming from NIGAV for the second year running albeit in another capacity.

Collecting the award on behalf of Nigerianflightdeck, Publisher Nigerianflightdeck represented thanked the organisers stating that it was an honour.

He expressed the need for journalism, not only to fair but also to have a human face and try to make a positive impact in the society, especially at this time where the media both conventional and social has become a tool to peddle falsehood, disunity and disenchantment.

On its part, the Nigerian Immigration Services ( NIS) received an award as the Best Facilitation Service based on the assessment and rating on its performance via a vis other agencies at the airport by the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council ( PEBEC) on the implementation of the Ease of Doing Business.

Immigration was ranked 84% and was named the most efficient Ministry Department and Agencies ( MDAs) in terms of service delivery timelines and compliance to default approvals and on government directive in Executive Order 001 around the nation’s airports.

The NIS floored agencies like the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantined which scored 69%, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria ( FAAN) with 52%, Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) with 47% and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) with 0%.

Speaking on the awards bagged by AIB, CEO, Mr. Akin Olateru said: Bagging this award is not an easy one, but we have been able to achieve within this period. We will take AIB to a much higher level in 2019. We have done a lot of infrastructural development, equipment and human capital. Every untrained investigator employed in 2013 has been trained and we are training across board.”

He said the task ahead was huge but that the bureau will meet up as best as it can.
