Tuns Farm leads food safety, quality system audit

Poultry products producers, Tuns Farms Nigeria Limited has set a new benchmark for quality management system for chicken plants in Africa.

The company emerged as one of the top performers in a recent third-party audit in Food Safety and Quality System conducted by the South African firm, Aspirata on behalf of Yum Restaurant International (YRI), brand owner of KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and Long John.

Chairman of Tuns Group, Asiwaju Olatunde Badmus made the revelation while receiving a team from the office of the Vice President, Federal Ministries of Agriculture, Health and Education at the company’s headquarters in Osogbo, the Osun state capital.

Speaking during the visit, the General Manager of the company, Mr. Seyi Ogunjinmi, reiterated that the company’s commitment to producing safe and quality chicken products has positioned Tuns Farms among the top fliers in the area of Food Safety and Quality System not only in Nigeria but also across the continent.

“Tuns Farm is known for safety and quality, this has been our focus and our goal. The recent third-party audit carried out by Aspirata firm from South Africa has only proven our commitment and dedication towards that goal and we promise to continue to deliver only quality and safe products always” he said.

The team which also includes delegates from 8 states; Enugu, Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Kaduna, Oyo, Kwara and Borno, were led by the National Program Manager of Federal Government’s Home Grown School Feeding Program, Mrs. Bimbo Adesanmi,  who congratulated the farm for setting the standard for national chicken production. The team was in Osun State as part of a facility tour to inspect the farm and observe its operations.

Sharing the company’s experience on chicken inclusion in the state’s school meal program which the company has been handling since the introduction of the school feeding program in Osun four years ago as well as the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding on the National Egg Production Scheme (NEGPRO), Asiwaju Olatunde Badmus thanked the Federal Government for the opportunity given the company to serve the nation.

He assured the delegates that the 1 million jobs to be created through the egg production scheme will increase to 2 million if the scheme is extended to meat production.

“We can achieve so much more in terms of job creation through meat production. As we speak, six state governors among who are Kebbi and Borno, have signaled their government’s preparedness to look into this and have invited TUNS farm to their states to discuss modalities for takeoff” he noted.

In his response, Special Assistant to the Vice President, Mr. Dotun Adebayo, thanked the management of the farm for such creating thousands of job for Nigerians while supporting government at all levels to make agriculture attractive and profitable.

He commended the management for setting up international standards that has made international brands such as KFC, Master meat/Shoprite and PCD identify with the farm as a source of safe poultry meat in the country.
