Aeronautic engineers charge govt to replenish ageing workforce

Government at various levels across the country have been charged to tackle the challenge of ageing workforce in the aviation sub sector as this has become a cause of worry to engineers under the aegis of Nigerian Society of Engineers, Aeronautical Division

This is just as the body has put out a call to their members to sustain critical safety infrastructure with scarce resources due to the current economic decline and charged their professional colleagues to be ingenious and tap into their wealth of experience as well as dexterity to move the sector forward.

President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Aeronautical Division, Engr Bola Bido who made these known said it became necessary as a result of the current situation with workforce as well as the dwindling economic activities in the country.

Engr. Bido who decried the high rate of ageing workforce in the aviation sector said it remained a source of worry to the association and stakeholders and appealed to various state government across the country to embark on the training of Aeronautical engineers in aviation colleges to replace the old ones.

Bido challenged engineers in the aviation sector not to rest on their oars as there was a great task of transforming the sector through ingenuity adding that the era of analogue was over as every sector has been digitalized

He reiterated his call on the need to imbibe maintenance culture as a norm adding that lack of maintenance culture has been attributed as reason responsible for the fold-up of some companies in the country.

Bido urged engineers to continue to play leading roles in all agencies in the aviation sector as the industry was being driven by technology manned by engineers.

He cautioned that no technical issues should be allowed to affect safety in any form notwithstanding the challenges in the system.
